Any other companies with ARP quality studs?
ARP is on backorder until October for AMC Indy head studs

Re: Head Studs
Are these for use on a motor that’s bored & honed already?

Re: Head Studs
Unfortunately yes. Torque plate honed with bolts. Leaking past the fire rings on a few holes toward the exhaust side. May have to add extra bolts to get these heads to seal up but was considering trying studs also

Re: Head Studs
ARP is the only source. I thought there was another fastener company in CA that was mentioned on Engine Masters a while back but so far I have not found it.

Re: Head Studs
JC you may be thinking of A-1 Fastener Company. if so they dropped out of Automotive Fastener production. They " DID " make some Super High Quality stuff . Mark H.

Re: Head Studs
You did not give any detail as to this motor , how muchpower its making and if it's doing so by means of boost or Nitris.
My opinion is is that studs will not be a cure for your issue.
Have you confirmed that the head bolts near the fire ring where you have leaking taking place is not bottoming out, and in perticular when the motor heats up and things expand.005" to .008" like bolts can do near the Exh runner?
Any minute signs that the Pistons are hitting the heads?

Re: Head Studs
jc,
I am sure you already thought of this but have you looked through their individual stud listings to see if there is something close enough to work ?

Re: Head Studs
Thanks Ill check out the optitorque for a potential source. ARP is out on the long studs for the kit
Bolts have about .250" clearance to bottom out
The engine is a 7-8 lb boost torque storm blow through carb application. Heads show signs of leaking around multiple fire rings, Cometic MLS, but I think it was due to being too lean. I'm an NA guy and this is only my second supercharged engine. What I am reading says I should be around 11.5 AFR
Ill probably install new gaskets and give the bolts another try. I had 25* of timing with 12.5 AFR from mid to the top of the pull on pump gas.

Re: Head Studs
Without knowing the details of the head bolts tensile strength this is only a possibility but socket head cap screws are usually the highest strength commercial fasteners available and with a little work often make very good head fasteners.

Re: Head Studs
The Indy has a thinner deck than the Edelbrock. I'm a strong believer in the extra bolt with the Indy and particularly with a power adder.

Re: Head Studs
I have found that especially with the added expansion rate of running boost with Aluminum heads that unless the heads deck surface is mirror like that the fire ring can get chewed thru kinda fast.
You can try the old Pontiac, Olds, buick trick of adding another 10 ft lbs to the head bolts that are the closest to where the exh heat in near by.
