Big Block Chevrolet Head and Piston Info Needed

Post by mdc689 »

Starting a 632 build. Right now I have the Merlin 4.600 bore block and Brodix Head Hunter 383mc heads with 2.4 intake and 1.850 exhaust valves. My question is will a standard flat top work with these heads? If I wanted to add compression to it will a normal open chamber dome piston work with them or will the dome pistons need to be Head Hunter specific pistons? Thanks

A 24 degree flat top should work if the valve relief has enough radial clearance for a 2.400

A small dome under 30cc could work again if the valve relief allows the 2.400 valve.

Most piston companies have a dome with proper relief location and angles, spark plug location etc.

My $.02 would be order the right pistons, have the cam card ready. Sometimes you end up eating a set of pistons trying to make them work.. cheaper and less time starting with the right stuff.

Why don't you check out what Info Brodix might be able to help you with.
