LOL!! Kind of late to the party by about 15 years but better late than never. Good advice though. Always amazed how things change with time such as the Lubriplate replies from 15 years ago.. That stuff has proven no good at all for extended storage.

Best assembly lube is Lucas Heavy duty engine stabilizer. Can't beat it for the amount you get for the price. Funny I've been questioned numerous times, is that good for assembly lube? I show them right on the bottle, Makes a great excellent assembly lube. And then they say, Oh, ok ,cool. I've used STP heavy duty oil additive, that's similar, but you can literally feel the difference in lubricity, when assembling heads. Lucas is much slippery.

Ahh.. there is a bit more to it than just the sliding surfaces... The entire inside tends to get condensation & rust spots depending on temperature and humidity just setting around, especially in a nice tight plastic bag.
