Another 383 Holden street/strip engine

Post by KnightEngines »

Ran this up yesterday, came out pretty damn good.
The brief was as much HP as possible while remaining streetable & not requiring excessive maintenance.

We made 654hp @ 7100rpm & 532lb at 5400rpm on pump E85.
670.5hp @ 7200rpm & 538lb @ 5300rpm on VP C85.

Motor has OEM block & iron heads.

Block converted to 4 bolt, grouted, oiling mods & good machining.
Scat steel small journal crank
Callie's compstar 5.85" small journal rods
SRP pro pistons

Heavily ported but not max effort 'VT' iron heads with 2.06/1.6" Ferrera comp plus valves.

Valve train is custom grind comp solid roller, 268/274 on 109 centres, .438/.420" endurance racing lobes (the old crane lobes). .700/.670" valve lift with Yella Terra plantinum 1.65 ratio rockers.
BAM bushed lifters
Crow .110" wall 5/16" pushrods
Isky RAD-9000 springs, Manley TS retainers & Ti locks, Manley spring seats.
Rollmaster gold timing kit.

Modified RTS oil pan with external pickup
Moroso single stage oil pump/vac pump combo on a custom mount, moroso BBC drive mandrel on custom adaptor, moroso remote filter, moroso vac relief valve.

All plumbing is Aussie made speed flow fittings & line

TP pro paw intake, match ported & runner entries raised & tidied, custom tapered 2" spacer, pro systems 950 E85 carb.

MSD pro billet distributor, 6AL ignition & blaster coil, MSD 8.5mm leads.

Off the shelf hurricane headers, 1 7/8" primary tri Y with 2" secondarys & 3" collectors.

Compression is a conservative 12.4:1 to allow for variable pump E85 quality & we tuned it on the safe side.
It'll race on C85.

It's the highest power I've seen from a streetable iron head engine that's not set on kill.
