I have a Ford MS smog/vacuum pump question

Post by BirdMan »

I don't know which is suction/into pump and which is outflow. It has a large 1" port and a smaller 3/4" one which I think goes to puke tank?? A picture I can't copy at the moment.

I have it figured out as I used my CraftsMan drill press motor & belt to power/rotate pump. Large hole is side pulls air into pump from engine crankcase/valvecovers and will have an adjustable vacuum break and exhales through the smaller hole at rear of pump which will go to breather tank.

Ford Truck, 22 cubic inch emission vacuum pumps were used for crankcase pumps years ago so, a Ford Truck manual may tell you this information.

Back in those days, we actually used 2 of those pumps to supercharge a Chevette.

Just run it in the clockwise direction, (looking from the front), and it will tell you the inlet from the outlet.
