Bent roller camshafts

Post by 1972ho »

I have had one of my V-6 roller cams that over the years had been bent twice and straightened once this time it was bent over .020 in one spot and .010 in another do you know if I can have this camshaft straightened again and still be able to run are should I just leave it alone.I’m not sure why it keeps getting bent but should I have it straightened again, camshaft these days are are getting very expensive that’s why I’m asking.

If you do have it done again I would then send it off to be cryo treated.

Is the cam cast or steel. I will straighten a cast cam only if under .005. Ive straightened steel up to .030 but do it slowly and then set it with a blunt punch. Ive also straightened with cold water and heat but u better know the steel to do that.

It's just me, but I would find another block- or engine- to play games with. Something is mechanically wrong inside in the design or how you're using it.
