Are the factory refurbished Holley carbs worth getting?
I have a buddy that was telling me he was going to get some of those Holley factory refurbished carbs.
Not the new models, but the old gold colored classic ones.
Like the L-1850, and the 450 cfm type.
He's wanting a L-3310 780 cfm, and a 650 double pumper.
I looked at them and they don't have a warranty.
Are these worth getting, or just slapped together.
Thanks for any info.

If you are not worried about the weight of them being zinc then they are good units.

We are on their list. I buy them all the time. Got 3 @ Christmas that were 8-900.00 each and refurb were 400.area. I completely go through and change them anyway. But good carbs for the money on one's we have had.

A couple of people told him the refurbished are 2nds or rejects.
I would think they have to check them before the sending them out.
Otherwise they would be fire starters.
Thanks again for the good reviews.

Buying electronics, I’ve always bought refurbs direct from the manufacturer. Usually you end up with something that is very low use, and has been gone through better than from the factory floor for much cheaper.
Depending on how Holley does the refurbs (in house?), it may be the same.

I've bought some and been bitten by some- question is, they must have some volume of defective units to justify a reman line.hoffman900 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2024 10:19 am Buying electronics, I’ve always bought refurbs direct from the manufacturer. Why no warranty? They that proud of there work?
Re: Are the factory refurbished Holley carbs worth getting?
That's what had us leery of it.
If it was just a bad float, needle and seat, leaking pump, we could fix that.
I've heard of bad castings that had air and fuel leaks after the carb warmed up to engine temps.
Re: Are the factory refurbished Holley carbs worth getting?
Bought a HP mainbody last winter that had casting flaws, wasn't a reman so Holley sent a replacement. Also bought a proform and their quality is much better these days. I returned another many years ago due to poor quality. Just shows how things change over the years LOL

Don't think I could justify buying a boxed product without SOME kind of warranty. 90 day, 6 months, 1 year....Should run out of the box or fail right away.

According to their literature, most of them are returns from people that attempted to tune, got them way out of whack then cried "junk, give me a refund" and some were scratched etc during shipping. Once returned gone through and adjusted back to OEM specs.dfarr67 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2024 12:45 pmI've bought some and been bitten by some- question is, they must have some volume of defective units to justify a reman line.hoffman900 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2024 10:19 am Buying electronics, I’ve always bought refurbs direct from the manufacturer. Not meaning to "resurrect" this thread, but I can add my experience.
I have only bought 1 Holley from their "Remanufactured" line, from eBay, from Holleys own eBay page. It was a 600cfm 4160 Street Warrior with electric choke.
(*short story: Nice price, but beware, inspect and adjust before using it)
The carb was not broken, but it was totally crazy adjusted, I usually adjust the transfer slot, go over it and some of the basic stuff before I put it on the engine.
If I had not done that it would probably idle atleast at 3000+RPM.. (Hmm, maybe it was actually a perfectly setup cam-run-in-carb HaHa..)
My theory is that someone bought it, did not know how to adjust it even remotely,(and probably had an engine with issues too) returned it, and then Holley did not "remanufacture" it, they just reboxed it and sold it cheap to someone else (me in this case). They can not have looked very much at it atleast, since it was very obviously really out of adjustment.
So I think these carbs probably are okay to get for people that have maybe atleast average or above know-how to adjust an engine.
Also, the Acc. pump spring was so soft that it was useless. One or more of the boosters is a bit crooked mounted I think. While this was a pretty cheap carb, in my experience Holley have had some quality control issues a while now, but that would maybe make for an even better reason to buy the "reman" line, since you may potentially end up with some issues anyway. (Not just Holley with quality issues these days though)
And I will add that I would probably never buy a 4160 again, I had this idea it would be great for a stock engine and 200R4, and my first Holley was an 4160, so maybe a bit nostalgic. But even the single fuel inlet, that I thought maybe was nice for an stocker, would instead make aircleaner fitment and such actually more difficult.. You live and you learn..

If you look at Holleys web site , there are only 2 carbuetor models available at this time.

lalablabladada, do you just make things up to see if anybody notices? You got to ditch your dial-up interbebs misconception and go to the actual Holley web site.rgalajda wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2024 5:23 am3310 780 cfm has not been manufactured for years.Jackal66 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 23, 2024 2:18 pm I have a buddy that was telling me he was going to get some of those Holley factory refurbished carbs.
