air cleaners best worst?

That's where I got my kit, Bill. I reckon I should've got a lower base though. I'm still unclear on that.

How tall of a filter is required with that base?

was thinking, on my 69 c10 i got the hood clearance for it and instead of touching the hood i could go almost the with of the engine with my housing and open it up into the opening where the wipers and hardware are, what are the pros and cons to this? i am aware i got to keep it high enough to not involve water on a rainy day, and the fact it may inconveniently hide my distributor

It's an OK business but it takes more time than you might think,,,ordering the parts from the molder, picking them up, assembling and boxing, then advertising, taking orders and shipping. each step is easy but put together they take a lot of time. It would only make sense for someone that knows how to retail parts.
Several mail order companies were interested in carrying them but shipping from CA was a profit drain, it would be best for someone in the mid west.

Used to live out west, and that was 14 years ago... Live in texas now... but remembered when i lived in Florida for awhile ordering a part from Napa that had to be shipped from California or Washington two areas of choice.. took a whopping 10 days out of washington...even 15 years ago knew of a small trucking business that went out of business in northern Cali due to the fuel costs and the big Pain in the but DOT roadside inspections became. It even scared off some of the bigger companies..

use a 14x3 filter element at minimum.
The OEM holley musclecar carbs that used these GM "Z/28 L-88 L-72" filter bases all had a lower choke horn height (and downleg boosters) than the typical aftermarket version holley carb does.
So either remove the choke horn or convert-upgrade the your carb to a HP for best results.
If the PCV tube hits your carb just cut it off and block the hole.
Minor relieving trimming of the back of the air cleaner base is required to fit HEI.

Gives 1" more hood clearance than the Moroso base does.

Edelbrock carb requires a Banjo style fuel inlet fitting.
Auto choke may not fit. Edelbrock has cool little 1/2" carb 5 1/8" ring spacers that will raise the base if nessessary.

Braswell filter is 4 to 8 HP over all filter I tested

I can't find a picture on Braswell's site, does anyone have photos of this filter assemby?

We're updating the website right now. Our filter housing uses a spun base so the air has a smooth path to travel. The top is larger than the base the filter element tapers outward, this allows you to get the full flow of the element and take full advantage of the radius of the base.

That looks like a nice set-up for height limited applications! Would you share some dimensions? How deep is the drop and how high does it sit above the carb mounting flange?

BTW, I presently run an L-88 drop base with a 2 3/4" K&N element and a dome lid to clear my hood. I know I'm sacrificing flow with this set-up on a 500+ HP small block.

If I rember, it's something like 1 percent more power for every 10 degrees you reduce the temp of the air feeding the carb.

providing that you jet accordingly.
