You didn't ask this, but I would steer your buddy away from an NOS block. I'd much rather have a seasoned machined block that has already been through the heat cycles.

On aluminum head, with head bold making port weird, why not use a stud. Weld-up the problem and make a good port, with header flange to fit ?
