My take on a Hot Rod: Tbucket, BMW v8, Supercharger, Nitrous.
Hey Guys, I wanted to share a few pics of my recent project over the past two years. Technically one year on the engine and one year thus far building the car.
I started putting the engine together for another project, but then decided to go in an entirely different direction once the engine was together.
Late 90's BMW 4.4L V8 short block, pictured with raceware head studs:
Donor early 90's BMW 4.0L V8 to sacrifice it's heads, cams, timing set up, covers and misc hardware:
Is it said that the early 4.0L V8's had bigger cams & bigger valves compared to the later 4.4L's. Heads back from a machine shop rebuild:
Time to figure out this engines static compression ratio:
92mm (3.62") bore x 82.7mm (3.26") stroke, 52cc chambers, +.025" piston height with 4cc dish. 1.74mm (0.69") compressed head gasket thickness. Roughly 9.66:1 static compression ratio
The Supercharger is an Eaton M112 from a late 90's Jaguar, using Jaguar intercoolers and fuel injection sitting on adapters to bolt to the BMW heads.
Using aftermarket cam alignment tools the valve timing events landed at:
@.1mm lift:
Intake opens 12° BTDC / Intake closes 48° ABDC
Exhaust opens 48° ABDC / Exhaust closes 12° ATDC
240°/240° duration -108° intake centerline / 108° lobe separation
@1mm lift:
Intake opens 2° ATDC / Intake closes 33° ABDC
Exhaust opens 33° BBDC / Exhaust closes 7° BTDC
211°/206° Duration - 107.5° Intake centerline / 108.75° lobe separation
When it was all said and done I set up the cams for a 112° ICL and a 110° LSA, retarding the intake cams a bit to lower dynamic compression and aid in keeping the charge in the cylinder by reducing overlap.
Up next. Building the car...

Mid 90's BMW 5 series transmission, Getrag 420g 6 speed manual with lightweight flywheel and 265mm clutch.
Speedway Motors bare T frame:
I decided to be a bit goofy with the headlights, mount them to the spindles so they turn with the steering.
New shop space, welding in the mounting & crossmembers:

I've still got an honest 4-6 months worth of work to do, electrical and wiring, plumbing the brakes & clutch, redoing a few things, wiring in the EFI controller, But it's moving along.
I've had this deadline to have a running and driving car by the end of the 2019. I am still very much attempting to meet this goal but not if it means making compromises on parts or build execution. It was never my intention to build anything show quality but rather a fun, scary, aggressive "Hot Rod" that I had pictured in my head.
I do have this ultimate goal with the car however. Once I manage to get a VIN and a title, registration & insured...somehow. To drive the car from where I live in Arizona to Santa Monica in Los Angeles. Join the HWY1 in Santa Monica and cruise the Pacific Coast Highway (Where possible) all the way north to where I grew up just north of San Francisco in Marin County. Thanks for checking out my project. Please check in for updates and hopefully the first fire up video soon.

Very cool. I love out of the box thinking. I would have done things different, but that is what is so great seeing that we don’t all do them alike! I look forward to seeing this pop up at a show near me on the west side of town.

Like the sound. Waaaayyyyy beter than the tuned exhaust systems on the cars.
Also like that you doing it different.
I'm a chevy guy but looking at rods with all of them sbc ,gets boring after a while. All you looking at is different colours and who can put the most chrome on them.
