That is to say, 1.37 HP/CID.

Always liked your builds, posts and results. Nice to see you and your son getting on with it.
Do you have a thread documenting the 327?

As for advice on how to build the 355, I've got nothing to offer that you don't already know. If heat is an issue, maybe a Air Gap style intake but that's about it.
I'm staying tuned for your next move.
Think I can get 520 HP? I know I can get 465 TQ, my 327 had 400 TQ for a 100 RPM spread, and 390s for a wide range, should help the launch.
Of course you can get 520 HP but not with the specification of parts that made 447 with the 327.
400 TQ from 2000 to 5500 is my guess for the 355. At least that's what my aftermarket Vortecs and small hydraulic roller 357 is predicted to dyno.
So the question is, what will be the next spec? I suspect not out of the box Vortecs.

When we built the 327 several mistakes were made, what started out as a mild build, I ended up wanting it to be wilder, but my piston choice made PV a big problem, then I didn't open the pushrod hole enough to use a 1.6 rocker which really limited the use of my head flow. I will use a fully ported 2.02 valved Vortec head. The same mistakes made on the 327 will not be made with the 355. The last flattop 360 I built had 470 peak TQ.

My money is on 520 HP then.

As for this

For my own comparison, what would they flow in the .500" range?
I don't think my RHS Vortecs could support your target HP and they come in at 254 @ .500".

Just slap a 300-25 strip dominator on it, that'll get it into the 11's.
I will be running a Vortec head on the 355, how would you cam this thing knowing I need to drive it, flat tappet cam?
I was just thinking to stick a single plane on the 327 - it don't need much more to be in the 11's.
But yeah, a 360 cube engine will do it easier.
We don't really have vortech heads over here, I've never played with any, so I don't know how I'd cam it.
But I'd be in the high 250's intake duration I expect, likely 108 centres.
Maybe a 258/264 on 108.
Maybe smaller if the heads are good.

I really want to see this test and by the Mark, the Vortec S/V works really well and pulls super good over the dual plane intake with the Vortec heads.

Thats about what I was thinking, I'd really like peak power close to 7000 RPM. I sold the 327.

Hydraulic roller? Solid roller? Flat tappet?
You had mentioned the truck being a driver so I'd be thinking roller something.

A quick recap of my final build:

360 inch 2 bolt, 10.8 compression, 291 fuelie heads, 264/.528/108 solid flat tappet cam, air gap intake, 750 Holley DP, Moroso oil pan, MSD ignition, 6AL with a 85551 dist, my 327 ran a HEI.

My truck weighs 3970 race ready, has truck brakes with a two piece driveshaft, I also run a Turbo 350 with a 5.13 gear. Next Sunday its going to the track, for its first outing, hopefully I will reach my goals, I'd really like to be done with this project, it drives great, same as my 327 did, very streetable, runs great on pump gas. If I don't reach my goals, I will be looking at the drive shaft and fuel system next. So Sundays the day, hopefully I will have some videos and data to report back with.

Sounds like a solid combo. I'm thinking, with the right converter, you'll easily get your 11-second pass. How tall of a rear tire is on the truck? Seems like a lot of gear for the 1/4, but maybe not. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

"so how would you build the 355?" Turn it into a 406. The first time a made the swap I found a full second and the mph to go with it. Of course, every time I build an engine I start thinking about the next one.
So much to do, so little time...

Rear tire is 30" tall.
