306 ford with afr 165 renegade heads cam question

Post by fomoco88 »

hello all new to the site
building a 306 ford using a 90 roller block
probe 4340 crank probe steel rods polished and bushed and probe srs flat top pistons
block has been bored with deck plates also been decked pistons are 0.10 to deck surface
assembly has been balanced as well, 9 degree billet cloys timing chain set with German made chain
using AFR 165 RENEGADE HEADS #1399 58cc chamber with scorpion 1.6 roller rockers performer rpm intake and a hp series Holley 650 dp
looking at a cam from Howards its a hydraulic roller pt# 221145-12 which is 219 225 duration@50 544 intake lift 533 exhaust
112lsa on a 108 intake center with an overlap of 51 says 2-6000
i was hoping to find something with a little higher rpm say 6500 but seems like everything is like 12 weeks out
i was wondering if a 110 lsa with a 106 center would be better or possibly anyone know of a better camshaft grind for this combo
it is a pump gas motor 9.8-1 is the estimate using a 0.39 head gasket
car is going to be for street and strip 90 fox chassis 5 speed with 3.55 gears
was shooting for 350-380 hp if possible any thought for a better grind would be appreciated as i haven't purchased the cam yet thanks for your time

Cam it for however that vehicle is going to be used 85% of the time.
Trick Flow does have around .600" lift cams available right now; if you're stuck on something bigger.

Trick Flow has a cam used quite often by street/strip 5.0 liter engines.
HR-236/359-2S1-10 I got one from Summit the 24th of May.
286/294@.006" - 224/232@.050" - .542"/.563" valve lift w/1.6 rocker ratio - sep. 112; 110 intake

look into a jones custom cam or if you want something off the shelf an XE270HR is similar to that howards cam
mikes work is very very good, and definitely worth the money if you want something you can put in and know it'll work.
might be worth trying to up the compression a little too, 10.5:1 should be fine on the street with those heads, even on mid fuel (i think you guys call it 91 over there)

i agree with the 110* LSA too, though i would follow any advice jones cams has, just tell them what you want and how you want it to perform, give them the list of your engine specs and let them sort the cam out for you.

theres an old thread on here that david vizard did with a comp grind that was similar in specs to what you are looking at, made over 400hp from memory.

Here are some Ultra Dyne cam lobes, that you can get ground at Bullet Cams, with any LSA & ICL you want:

Lobe # .006 .050 .200 lobe lift 1.6 rockers
HR11 280 226 149 0.3533 0.565

HR12 288 234 155 0.3533 0.565

Bullet have only a 6 wk lead time, with the Ultra Dyne cams.

The BoobTube celebrity favorite camshaft!
"Quality" is like buying oats. You can pay a fair price for it and get some good quality oats,
or you can get it a hell of a lot cheaper, when it's already been through the horse.

Ed Curtis at FTI is still around. You will get a reply when you send money. No time for tire kickers got a valvetrain from him not too long ago.

Nobody found it funny Ed replied right above my post?

Richard Holdner and that cam. Lol. A stock cam will also respond well to nitrous, a roots blower, a centrifugal supercharger, a turbo(s), better heads, etc. Cash that check if it ever came.
