Weight for Shocks, Springs 69 Chevelle SS396

Post by USMC_Spike »

I'm trying to find a weight estimate of the BBC 496, for the front.

it has Edlebrock Alum Water pump
AFR 290cc Alum heads
Holley Alum Street Dominator intake
4 core alum Radiator
Wilwood light weight Discs and rotors.
The Scat crank is forged, light weight, 1/4 stroke crank.

The Chevelle has HO racing Specialties: HD springs and shocks, torsion bar, along with
spindles from 78 Caprice. The shocks/springs were for a full weight BBC package.

Now it is lighter but not sure what the original front weight was.
Also, and not sure what weight is based on the lighter parts.

Any Ideas as to estimate it?

Yes, google is my friend.
wt. in lbs.

BBC 454 type with running ~ 700
less Alum Intake & Headers - 80
Less Alum Heads................- 80
engine component ............~ 540

So front curb weight at 1830
less contrib BBC ~253
front curt sub tot = 1577 lbs front 1515 rear
ok that is close enough for Gov't work.

Comments always welcome

1970 Chevelle SS
https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/co ... ison-test/

"The Chevelle was decidedly more powerful, pushing its 3885-pound bulk through the traps at 103.80 mph, but with -57.1% of its weight on the front wheels"

A quick trip to the local truck stop scale will give you total weight and front weight, hence weight split front to rear.
Just put the front wheels on the scale, weigh it, then pull to the middle of the scale, read it and you're done.
Same thing can be done on Co-op grain truck scales. The local one used to be on 24hrs/day and I'd just pull in at night and weigh my trucks...
