Originally set all this up to be a COMP package, At the time of this build, comp had zero cores available and no PO cut to buy cores for at least 6 months, to get a core to grind a new cam !! So I went with Erson who had dozens of cores on the shelf. This is a 1.0 BC Erson grind, lobes RH298/365 RH306/365 110+4 .365 lobe lift. Heads were spec'd by Chad at SRH. Rockers a Comp Pro Magnum 1.6 7/16 studs.

Has anyone tried this mod for hydraulic lifter noise?

1/8 of a turn or a full turn, preload is preload.

Wheelsup330 , are you running a mechanical fuel pump ? If yes it could be the fuel pumps arm spring is broken / weak or the arm has clearance to the cam eccentric.

When it comes to quiet operation..........Hydraulic roller lifters “are like a box of chocolates”

One of my favorite examples of how noisy they can get:

Somewhat handy with a die grinder.

SCHNIKIES these aren't anywhere near sounding horrible, just ticking enough I'm not comfortable with it going out the door.

Negative its running on a in-tank pump with a sniper, which I thought it was possible this was some "injector tick" but after listening around with a scope its def from inside the rocker covers.

I have def not seen this until now. Def had not heard of anyone having lifter "lack of pump" issues with these Dart blocks either. Wish I had seen this two years ago.

Well I pulled out the Comp 850 lifters, they are noticeably spongy in the plungers and these Howard’s are not at all spongy just new out of the box. Take a look at the oil band location and compared the two oil port locations as well. Comp 850 on the left. Howard’s 91113 on right. These new lifters are set at .035” preload and quiet as OE.

As an additional note I had put the COMP lifter bore grooves in these lifter bores and I was beginning to doubt that decision but this proves that block oiling was NOT the issue. Very possible that the 850 Comp lifter oil band is just too wide and drops too low to effectively seal?? But I can guarantee they were not open and not visible from below the lifter bore. I checked with a bore scope once I had the intake off. So that’s my prognosis. Small Base Cam near 1.0? Run Howard’s.
