Blocked posting

Post by BCjohnny »

Had to go onto a third IP to post here as the other two have been blocked by the bl00dy Spamhaus project

Usual anonymous BS reasons about spam blah blah, completely unwarranted, and need to provide all my 'details' to these unregulated gangsters to be worthy ....... they can kiss the proverbial

Little more than ransomware dressed up as something legitimate

Be aware, you could be next

The phpBB forumsoftware is checking IPs of all members during a new post against the Spamhaus database. This is ofcourse to fight and block possible spam-users that made it through the registration process successfully. If this function is turned off, it will most likely cause (more) spam-posts on the forum.

But it seems your IP(s) ended up in a database somehow, which now can cause issues. Is it possible your IP is being shared/rotated with other users at your Internet Provider?
During what time-span did you encounter the blocking and had to change IP-numbers? Hours/days/weeks?

IP is not shared

All of this has happened over the last couple of days, although I encountered a similar blip about five months or so ago

I'm not a prolific internet user, certainly not a spammer or 'dodgy' site user

If you are using these cowboys as a first line of defence, you need to look again, they have (according to their website) 28 operatives in 8 countries covering the internet ..... really enough for due diligence ??!!

I've been on here for almost two decades ...... I can get around this nonsense easily, but don't see why I need to .... I'm certainly no expert but this is annoying

How do Spamhaus make their money ?

p.s. Couldn't reply again through usual IPs, had to use third IP again to do this .......

It’s me, the BC !!!

Never had an alter-ego, but the internet Feds are trying to shut me down, so don’t have much of a choice really

So for anyone who’s interested, pull up a chair ......

This all started when I couldn’t post on ST, denied by the Spam*haus project, more on them later

Can log in and read, but can’t contribute (stop clapping at the rear), just get a bounce back from them directly telling me I’m a naughty boy and to unlock the account I need to fill out a very detailed questionnaire with a load of personal info, and all will be good again with the world

Well that’s not going to happen, so this is a brand new shiny persona

I don’t post much on the internet full stop, god knows how any one has the time or inclination, in fact in recent history I only post here

Spamhaus exists to save us all from the, well annoying spam that emanates from certain IPs, superficially a laudable endeavour …… but in my case, that’s not the case

As I have such a low digital footprint, and certainly don’t send out spam, it raises the question why I, like thousands of other innocent users of the web, have been singled out

The only common factor in this is Speed-Talk, and logging into my account here and I guess the associated email address with it …… that’s it

I can post sporadically, but once my IP …… I’ve used a few …... has been identified by an account post, they normally get blackballed as an association

So this is about linking my logged account to an IP, then blocking further posts from there, as best as I can determine, within the phpBB software (of which SH are an integral part) all this runs on, although I certainly don't claim to be an expert on the subject

The mere fact I’m using a new account, but posting from a ‘blocked’ IP, testifies to that ….. I guess the software can’t make the link, yet

Having helped fund this place since it rose phoenix like from the ashes, but now can’t access my full ‘bells and whistles’ features, is annoying to say the least, and not the greatest advert for anyone to chip in

I’ve emailed BigBlockMopar by another route, but he doesn’t seem to want to know, so before I get completely digitally erased I thought I’d put it up here ....... but it would be nice to get my account back, Mike

As regards ‘SH’, well …… if you search them they flood the internet search pages with their own, trumpet blowing, ‘reality’, drowning out all other opinion, but if you search them and add ‘problems’ then it’s a whole different world, including admins who’ve been blocked from posting in their own forums ....... I kid you not

Also check out Trustpilots reviews of their activities, if you've the want ...... Welcome to 1984

Regards, Blocked (nee ‘BCjohnny’)

Good to hear, but I haven't been able to change much.
Been looking for some additional admintools for the forum but did not find a good true IP whitelist option that can ignore the Spamhaus list.
Hope your username and ip stays working now.

Thanks Herman, still working after a couple of weeks, so promising enough ...... whatever you did do seems to have worked

Just had my HotPass renewal come through for another three years and, while I'd normally be happy to re-subscribe straight away, I'll hang fire for a bit until I know it's stable and usable

So I'm not the only one SpamH*us has negatively affected, unfortunately .........
