Chevy 193 Swirl port Mission Impossible
I go pretty deep down the rabbitt hole to prove the work I did on these in the 80's was pretty good. Lots and lots of wasted time but a good learning curve. My buddy Stevie talked me into this insanity so it is all his fault. The basic idea is to run a 9 sec 1/4 mile with the worst Chevy heads in existence. We don't have a chassis but if we need to use my Chevelle we will, it is heavy, which will be a problem. The basics so far will be a worked up 400 2 bolt block, we are thinking 393 cubes internally balanced to reduce flexing and harmonics. Pretty high compression maybe 12/1? 6.2" rods, Mike Jones custom cam, fairly high rpm 8k? Tunnel ram. It will take a good amount of time to get this all worked out but intersted in productive input. Yes, we know it is a dumb idea. Proving that things can be done after being told it can't just winds me up. I will see if I can figure out a way to link to my Youtube channel. Thanks, Charlie

Im thinking 7000rpm, but from which intake manifold would give you a 2,5in2 average area and 10inch long runner with the cylinder head?

I do have a Vic jr tall that flows about 320 but I think it really needs a tunnel ram. They are really hard to find! Thanks

A smaller area may work better for a shorter length, but what do you think Vic jr tall and the head opened to 2,5 would flow?

Re: Chevy 193 Swirl port Mission Impossible
Have you thought removing the swirl ramp completely, or making the port bigger?
A different approach but might be something worth exploring into, what size can it even be ported to?

I don't want to do that and have no idea if that is possible. I do want to keep to the original design as a swirl port. Maybe someone on here remembers the old Edelbrock turbulent charge cylinder heads?

Stick it in someone’s light front engine dragster. It will run 9’s. Then you don’t have to push a rock up hill.

Re: Chevy 193 Swirl port Mission Impossible
Have you done the calculations to see if you can or achieve enough area for the rpm and cubes?

Could always put them on a 302 or 327 and rev it.steve cowan wrote: ↑Fri Dec 15, 2023 9:31 pm Have you done the calculations to see if you can or achieve enough area for the rpm and cubes?

I don't do calculations till I am close to the end of developement. I use port air speeds. Thankssteve cowan wrote: ↑Fri Dec 15, 2023 9:31 pm Have you done the calculations to see if you can or achieve enough area for the rpm and cubes?

That head is undervalved, but you got it flowing to meet the demand which is cool.
Try make one port with a larger CSA in mind for comparison. Who knows what that head can flow with that deep bowl?
