Yes there's a lot to be said for combustion efficiency making everything that's not max-rpm power better1980RS wrote: ↑Tue Dec 26, 2023 9:51 pm Most impressed with the OP's videos. Would love to see a test with his Vic Jr. tall vs an RPM air gap with the divider cut down. One thing for sure is, just because it's down on the flow with the flow bench doesn't mean it will be bad at the track. Still very very good numbers out of that head.

Im trying to think of what youre leaving out and maybe it has something to do with how the port flows with different manifolds?
Did we see the fuel vaporize before it entered the cylinder? So could we try to put more emphasis on flow instead of mixture motion?

I actually did both of these tests on my 27th cut port. Performer rpm ported sleeper intake with a 770 Holley and my ported Vic jr. tall with same carb. The Victor was better almost everywhere!1980RS wrote: ↑Tue Dec 26, 2023 9:51 pm Most impressed with the OP's videos. Still trying to wrap my head around the Air Gap vs ported Vic Jr. (older one) My Air Gap with the divider cut down was quicker but the Jr. was like 3 mph slower even with re-jetting over the Air Gap + now after borrowing it out to a friend who tested it, his S/V 2925 was better then my Jr. Inc. his stock Jr. at the track, guess mine is a turd. Keep those cool videos coming.Carnut1 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 8:11 amI actually did both of these tests on my 27th cut port. I have sprayed more fluid when i didnt believe the results of it keeping suspended with the airflow

Thanks for this thread.
I've been forced against my will to reconsider the "crappy" swirl-port small-block heads. I suppose the next step is to reconsider the "crappy" L29 "Vortec" big-block heads.

1980 RS. Do you have a thread on your L29? I have two of these engines and have not been able to find much on these except from Richard H.
Charlie, I enjoy your videos on the heads. Keep up the good work! I am really curious what the 193s are capabil of with the 1.94/1.5 combo but ported.

Eric posted a video on the Trickflow fuelies. They have a swirl port. I like it. Thanks

1.94's will get a bit more work before moving up in valve size. Thanks

Charles, what's you favorite valve guide material for long term street sbc's.

Re: Chevy 193 Swirl port Mission Impossible
Fantastic info for the budget street strip racer. As there are tons of these head castings around.
I'd like you to go further and see what happens (noise, flow, velocity etc ) if you play a bit with clay or epoxy on the bowl roof and maybe short side too, to see if you like this port better overall.. You already have plenty of airflow for good power. Can you tweek it with clay(epoxy) to sweeten it to your liking.?
Make the roof nicer.? Reduce the port volume,..
I had the funny feeling you'd get sick of the swirl ramp eventually. Its not bad at all thou with the small ramp you left in last time.
Very interesting. I forgot what size valve is it cut for now.
2.02". , ? 2.05"?

Is the slice in the guide boss now creating all the port noise?
Re: Chevy 193 Swirl port Mission Impossible
I don't think I did on this site. I did my L-29's on a whim to see if they were worth anything over my peanut port heads. They clearly were, I was supposed to get them flowed last winter but the place I was going to have do them was closed that day and I haven't had time to test them as my bottom end expired the day I ran the heads.Justa1time wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2024 6:38 pm 1980 RS.
