Valve seat profiles

Post by sbcharlie »

I’m very lucky in my job to see different head designs and how manufacturers design ways to enhance air flow. Being in the motorcycle industry I see many profile designs. Offset seats are becoming the standard. And now I’m seeing directional offset valve seats. Kawasaki is use a cloverleaf design valve seats. What also interesting is how machine shop are destroying these seat profiles because they don’t know what they’re doing Charlie

Makes sense. There's not a lot of uniformity of flow around the seat and often you don't even want that (case in point, tumble. You deliberately don't want short side flow in some head designs), so why should seats be symmetrical?

The only production thing I know of that could even use a whole valve seat is either a hemi or a swirl-port :p
